We suffer the experience; we gradually assent to the advice

Comfort Zone

I used to have a comfort zone, where I knew I could not fail.
The same four walls and busy work, were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But I stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter, that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like diamonds, cars and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside my zone.
But deep inside, I longed, for some victory of my own. I couldn't let my life go by, just watching others win.
I held my breath and stepped outside to let the change begin.
I took a step, with a strain I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you are in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,

The Lights Seem Brighter

Christmas is a holiday for kids of all ages

People often spend at least two weeks wages

The lights seem brighter before Christmas Day

The energy is higher in most every way

Anticipation, expectations for material things to appear

It seems to embellish this time of the year

The shopping is fun and the houses look pretty

Most everything is lit up in the entire city

We’ve asked lots of questions and shopped for the best

We’re hopeful our presents will pass their test

The joy of giving is really a spiritual pleasure

It is psychic income and it’s hard to measure

Remember the cycle of giving is only complete

When the person receiving doesn’t ask for a receipt

Beautiful packages spread under the tree

Each kid is wondering which one is for me?

Excitement is building as the paper is torn

Their joy is measured by the expression that’s worn

We can tell if they’re happy disappointed or sad

We can tell if our choice was a good one or bad

So keep this is mind as you open your box

Even if it is only a pair of unmatched sox

To move ahead into prosperity, fortune and fame

You must have a huge dream; success you can claim

It is hanging on to the past that drains and applies the brakes

That keeps us from saying, “What a difference a year makes”

I have often wondered why holidays spent with family and friends

Seems to affect our moods, our attitudes and trends

We are moving forward, focused, doing all that it takes

That will permit us to say, “What a difference a year makes”

The reminders of failures, mistakes and bad choices

Are put in our subconscious along with their voices

That is why holidays have their own set of stakes

That sometimes remind us, “What a difference a year makes!”

All the coaches, gurus and success experts too,

Have instructions that tell us what we must do

We must continue to fail fast forward and make big mistakes

That will allow us to say, “What a difference a year makes!”

The definition of insanity is simple and clear

Do the same old thing and get that which you fear

Your current results do not your future dictate

I now believe, “What a difference a year can make!”

A Tribute to my Auntie Ellie

There is emptiness in the world today

‘Cause Auntie Ellie has gone away

She left her mark as I knew she would

She touched more lives than most people could

Always a sweet smile and caring concern

There was so much about life from her to learn

Never harsh words could anyone recall

She was a model lady who impacted us all

Never would she criticize, condemn or complain

Most of us never even knew of her pain

She entertained with ease and I’d like to stress

She did it from love and not to impress

She passed that and more qualities on to Annie B

As everyone who knows her can clearly see

She was so grateful and satisfied with every single thing

For over 65 years, she wore the same ring.

Each of us has our own memories to share

We honor her by the stories and smiles we wear

She wouldn’t want anyone to wallow or stew

She’d like us to do things we normally do

Play bridge, canasta or poker – and have fun

You all have families and work to be done

She would want us to make the most of each day

Not waste them with tears, now wipe them away

The rain is sprinkling on this February day

I truly believe it’s a sign that she is okay.
